Two Essential Makeup Tools for a Beginner

Two Essential makeup Tools for a Beginner

“Two?!”, I might hear you thinking.

Yes. You really only need two. Makeup might not be as daunting as you think.

I only use these 2 makeup brushes for my whole makeup because I seldom have to deal with eye makeup. But even when I do, I use my fingers to apply it. I feel I have more control with my fingers instead of brushes, or maybe I’m just inexperienced. Lol.

The 2 brushes that I use are only for my base makeup (foundation, blusher, bronze, highlighter and setting powder included).

I’ve actually used these two brushes for quite a long while, I’d say 6-7 years?

Essential Makeup Tools for Beginners

For foundation:

Liquid foundation – Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki Brush (love it for when I’m using Fenty Beauty’s foundation) / Beauty Blender (or sponges)

Loose Powder foundation – Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (Tarte’s airbrush foundation)

Beauty blender or the other types of it – If you’re into more of a dewy look, use it damp with your foundation. Or if you like to try baking, you can use it dry to tap the loose powder on areas you need. I find that the beauty blender gives you a lot more control than using a brush to bake your face.

Essential Tools Layout

For blusher, bronzer, highlighter and setting powder:

I use elf’s Complexion Brush for all 4 uses. In one seating.

To be honest, I don’t find that the colours or shimmers transfer that badly. If it does for you, you can give it a dusting after each step.

Btw, if you have dry skin, you could even skip setting powder! (Good for you, as I’m too oily for that haha)

For eyeshadows:

Your fingers! They are the best for eyeshadows, especially cream or gel types as they sometimes need the warmth of your fingers to spread beautifully.

On lazy days, I use only one colour for my eyelids and one-third of my outer bottom line.

On other days when I want to look slightly more put together, I use a (matte/shimmery) eyeshadow stick or a pencil that doesn’t require a tool to manoeuvre.

Some of you out there might have been doing it this way all the while or when you were a beginner, and it’s definitely not wrong. It’s pretty cost-effective.

It doesn’t really mean that the more tools you have, the better you are at makeup. It can even cause over-cluttering of things you do not need.

Anyway, I never thought it affected my blusher or bronzer application due to the two colours coinciding. On the contrary, it didn’t affect at all, so why not?

If you were wondering, yes, I do have other brushes (eye makeup brushes, shading/contour brush).

Despite that, it wasn’t a necessity for my daily makeup. I realised I only got them because I’ve watched YouTubers using them frequently.

Though as a beginner, you don’t really know how to begin from there. That’s why, I stopped using it and began using more of the tools I already have (my fingers!). And from then on, I honestly never really thought of getting an eyeshadow brush.

Once you think you’re able to give up some of those brushes you have, you can even save some money and be minimalistic with your makeup.

I love ‘killing two birds with one stone’. Haha. Plus, I usually get a little lazy with washing my brushes too. Heh.

How many makeup brushes do you use on a daily basis? Do you find it troublesome or are you already used to the number of brushes you have to use?

With 💕,
