Review | IUIGA vs Clarisonic Comparison

Honestly, these two shouldn’t be compared because the way they work is different.

That’s why people compare the Foreo and the IUIGA, and not much of Clarisonic and the IUIGA.

So this review, rather than a comparison, should be viewed as a 2-in-1 review to see which suits your preference 🙂

I decided to do a review of my 3-year old Clarisonic Mia 2 since a long time ago but never found the opportunity too but here it is!

This review could be a little extensive so take note!

Oh and I should say this first, my Clarisonic looks ‘different’ because I removed the outer brush head for easy usage around my nose.

More explanations below!

What: IUIGA Sonic Silicone Facial Cleansing Device vs Clarisonic Mia 2

Price: S$23.90 2023 price: $39.90 vs S$220 in Sephora (comes with mini cleanser)

Short intro:

IUIGA Sonic Silicone Facial Cleansing Device provides “High frequency vibration, deep cleansing (Up to 8,000 pulsations per minute) / concentric massage (Up to 4,500 pulsations per minute) to firm the skin and is suitable for mixed skin”. By mixed skin, I assume they mean combination skins lol.

Clarisonic Mia 2 provides “sonic frequency (that) oscillates back and forth at more than 300 movements per second to gently cleanse and remove impurities. No vibration, no spinning – the Sonic Method works with skin’s natural elasticity, to thoroughly cleanse skin.”

Do note the words in bold.

Read my previous review: Review | KraveBeauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser – I used this cleanser to test the cleansing functions of the two devices.

Look & Feel

IUIGA vs Clarisonic Comparison Product

IUIGA: Pressing the On/Off button once will start the Deep Cleansing mode, adjust the intensity you prefer but I use the 5th intensity.

There are 6 intensities/vibrations.

It pauses the vibrations every 15 seconds, indicating you to move towards another area of your face. Once 1 minute is up, it vibrates 3 times to let you know.

Same goes for the massaging mode. 15 seconds and vibrating 3 times to end, but the intensity of it will always be half of what you used for your cleansing mode.

It switches off after a total of 3 minutes automatically if nothing is done.

Clarisonic: Pressing the On/Off button once, starts the 1 minute and you can press the speed button to change to a higher or lower speed. The light changes positions to let you know whether it is on the high or the low speed.

It vibrates slightly stronger after each two 20-second intervals (forehead 20, nose and chin 20) and two 10-second intervals (10 on each of the cheeks).

All this while, I’ve only been using the sensitive brush head and the low speed. I never thought of going up higher because it was doing enough for me.

IUIGA: Pressing the On/Off button again puts it in standby for the Lifting Massage mode. They mentioned to dry your face (and using your skincare products if you’d like) before using the massage mode, but I personally prefer using it while I still have my cleanser on as it slides better and I’m lazy like that.

Will mention more in the Application column.

Once you’re done with the massage mode, you press the button once more to switch it off. So if you’re not interested in the massage mode, press it twice after you’re done with the deep cleansing mode to switch it off.

Clarisonic: Only for deep cleansing.

As you can see, these two are charged differently.

IUIGA: Charged with a USB charging cable. You can link it to your phone charging adaptor or to your computer.

Charging time: Not sure but is said that it can be used 1,200 times for every hour charged.

Clarisonic: Comes with a magnetic charger that snaps to the area I pointed in the picture above.

Charging time: about 18 hours for around 20 1-minute uses.

Application

Moving on to the applications! They both aren’t really used to remove makeup by itself. So do remove your makeup beforehand.

I put together this (2x playback) video below is just to show you how well it removes a matte lip product.

Btw, I didn’t use a lot of strength for both devices.

After watching the video, you’d know that Clarisonic cleans it way better than the IUIGA.

If you don’t like this lip product experiment, then I’ll share with you about how well it removes existing physical sunscreens leftover after makeup removal.

You know, the white cast part? I have these leftover white product (usually from sunscreens that dry more matte), which I hate using under makeup.

That’s why I love the KraveBeauty Beet the Sun lol. Although that is chemical sunscreen, hence no white cast haha.

IUIGA: Doesn’t remove as well unless you fixate on a spot where you noticed the white spot.

Giving it a general all-round cleanse doesn’t remove everything so do take note of areas where dirt or leftover sunscreens are possibly not properly removed.

It is also a little hard to manoeuvre around the corners of the nose because of how wide it is. It is possible but it was an awkward movement lol.

There is also a pink light that will turn on during the whole duration which ‘blinds’ my eyes when I do my forehead so I turn it upside down when I go to that area haha.

Clarisonic: The Clarisonic on the other hand, cleanses really well. So well that sometimes, I skip on using a cotton pad to swipe my skin with a toner because I do feel properly cleansed and go straight to patting and layering alcohol-free toners on my face.

I can only do it with the Clarisonic, not with the IUIGA, sadly.

I usually swipe my skin with a cotton pad on days where I know it’s not totally rid of dirt and impurities before doing two more layers of toner. Alcohol-free toner.

I removed the outer brush head of the Clarisonic to use it in the hard to reach areas.

However, there’s nothing I can do with the IUIGA one so it’s a pity but they both started out with a wide surface area lol.

Massage function of the IUIGA: I lightly press it onto my cheekbones (not to the extent where I feel my facial bones vibrating LOL, don’t do that) and under my eyes and slide it around my brow bone too.

I even use it on my jaw in a lifting motion. I haven’t seen obvious changes so far but if I do, I’ll update this and let you guys know through Instagram.

It is sort of relaxing in a sense and I’m sure it will help in the radiance of your skin overtime because you are increasing the blood circulation.

Increasing blood circulation is good as according to LiveStrong.com on face massages,

By improving “blood and lymph circulation, … can enhance the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to cells. This makes the cells healthier and more efficient.”

No

IUIGA

  • Doesn’t cleanse the skin as well as I expected but still alright
  • Shipping fee is S$7 otherwise, pick it up somewhere in the West area
  • Probably only available in Singapore as of now

Clarisonic

  • Expensive
  • Brush head costs S$35 too, expensive and you have to change every 3 months (I change almost every 6-12 months lol)
  • Prone to bacteria build up (you can’t see from the pictures, but my Clarisonic has build up of cleansers etc in really hard to reach areas)
  • Long charging time
  • Slight purging at the start

Am I Repurchasing?

This isn’t really a comparison of which I would repurchase, but a separate decision for each device.

The IUIGA is something I wouldn’t purchase if I had a trial of it beforehand.

I really wanted it to work, but I personally don’t think it’s a very good cleansing device.

It definitely cleanses better than your hands, that’s for sure. I was expecting a little more on the deep cleansing part.

If the Foreo isn’t as good as this, (which I’ve heard from reviews) I’m glad I actually got to try this out before impulsively buying another expensive device.

However, if you like my Yes section of the IUIGA, the extra massage function and think that you don’t need as thorough of a cleansing because you’re very thorough with makeup/sunscreen removal, you can try this one out. After all, it is only S$30.90 after shipping.

The Clarisonic, on the other hand, I would purchase again BUT only if I can afford it or if it isn’t so expensive.

I bought this in the period where I had clogged pores. This helped to exfoliate my skin gently and slowly improved my skin. So I do like this product, not the price and the maintenance of buying brush heads continuously.

Ah the woes of finding something in between lol.

IUIGA Rating:

3 out of 5

Clarisonic Rating:

4 out of 5

I hope this review(s) was helpful in your purchasing decision 🙂

Have you tried the Foreo, IUIGA or Clarisonic? What are your thoughts on them?

  1. Thanks for the tips on each. I’ve always wanted to buy something like this but the price tangs put me off. I don’t want to spend on something that isn’t going to work!

    1. Welcome! I only bought the Clarisonic hoping that it’ll be a investment and I’m glad it worked well for me 🙂
