Review | The Bath Theory Matcha It Up Face Mask

The Bath Theory Matcha It Up Face Mask Featured

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I fell sick the past weekend and I’m still recovering! But that still doesn’t stop my Review Wednesdays that’s been going on since I started this blog lol.

Okay to get this started!

The Bath Theory kindly approached me via Instagram and asked if I was interested to try any of their products and I looked around and saw that they had a Matcha + Oats Face Mask.

A few months back, I actually bought Matcha powder to make my own green tea cotton pad masks and I liked it.

I had rolled oats at the same time, that I bought to make homemade oat milk because I realised I was a little lactose-intolerant.

I still can’t hold back on Bubble/Milk Tea sometimes though lol.

Anyway, I was thinking of making a homemade matcha + oats mask but I never got down to trying it because I wasn’t sure of how much matcha powder or oats I needed.

Plus, matcha powder is expensiveeeeeeeee. I’m even so stingy with it when I made my cotton pad masks.

So when I saw their product, I was like “omg it’s what I’ve been wanting to concoct LOL”.

(Except theirs was a lot more beneficial to the skin) so thank you, The Bath Theory, for reaching out to me!!!

P.S. they didn’t ask me to do a blog review, just an honest Instagram review in exchange, but I wanted to do a blog review of it too!

Without further ado, let’s get right into it!

Look & Feel

The Bath Theory Matcha It Up Face Mask Product

In a box wrapped with a card saying Merry Christmas and a red-striped string were these two items!

A card explaining what Matcha It Up does for your skin and the product in a glass jar container.

On the other side of the card would be their Coffee ‘O’ Clock Face Mask. (Both products contain oats!)

I’ll leave a picture of their descriptions right below.

If you’re interested in the Coffee counterpart, do check them out!

The Bath Theory says that you can use this up to 25 times but that is also dependent on how much powder and water you use each time.

So it can last you 4-6 months if you use it once a week to pamper your skin.

About 3 months or less if you use it twice per week!

As long as you finish it within 8 months!

Application

The Bath Theory Matcha It Up Face Mask Application

I like that their tagline for the Matcha It Up is “Make me your Princess Fiona” HAHA.

I actually apply the mask and send my green face to annoy my boyfriend sometimes to say “Hi, I’m Princess Fiona lol” or “call me Fiona”.

If you know Shrek, you’ll get it.

Anyway, the bottom left picture was taken with sunlight in the background and the product on my face is with indoor lighting.

So do excuse the difference in the colours of the product. I promise you it’s Matcha coloured LOL.

I’ve used this 5 times in total ever since I got it on 9th November. That’s an average of 1-2 times per week.

Btw, I didn’t save any before and after photos because I use it only at night and indoor lightings at night was so bad at capturing my skin’s differences.

I tried but none of the pictures could be used 🙁 I’ve been wanting to get a proper camera but maybe when I start working officially!

Still finding a job 🙂 lol.

I hate digressing. Back to the point!

Each time after every use, I noticed my skin looking visibly brighter.

If you realised, they also have bentonite clay in the ingredients list and according to NaturalLivingIdeas: 11 Reasons You Should Put Bentonite Clay on your Face:

Bentonite clay also called Montmorillonite, is a very popular healing clay that also cleanses the body. This clay is made from minerals such as iron, sodium, calcium, potassium and magnesium, formed from volcanic ash. The name of the clay (bentonite) comes from the biggest deposit of Bentonite clay that is located in Fort Benton, Wyoming.

Adding water to the clay gives it a negative electric charge, which in turn, removes toxins from the body. It works both externally and internally.

The article talks more about Bentonite Clay, so if you’re interested, give it a click! You might learn something new.

Matcha powder on the other hand, you guys might be more knowledgeable about it so I’ll put the bullet points here:

It:

  • Treats Inflammation
  • Improves your complexion
  • Diminishes the signs of aging
  • Treats oily skin well
  • And is also good for all skin types

Taken from MatchaObsessed: Top 5 Benefits of Matcha For your Skin

Oats in the face mask also helps with moisturising and repairing the skin’s barrier with its Amino Acids when used regularly.

When mixing this with water, you start to realise some minute oat-shaped clumps, I assume it’s the oats or the bentonite clay as it is said that:

Bentonite clay “absorbs the liquids that it comes into contact with and expands to extract toxins from the liquid” too.

Either or, they are both good for your skin!

How much I use for my face:

1 (slightly) heaping teaspoon of the powder

2-2.5 teaspoons of water

The first 2 times were experiments to know how much powder I needed for my face size and the amount of water to use to make it paste-like.

By the 3rd time I used it, I could make it with no issue. Adjust accordingly if needed.

P.P.S. You can do this a while ahead and leave it in the fridge then take it in with you when you bathe. Soothing, calming AND cooling.

Application was easy but I recommend doing it while you’re stark naked or with a shirt you don’t mind dirtying as it might get messy.

I like to exfoliate my skin for a couple of seconds before washing it off too.

Although there’s clay in it, as you’re using it for about 3-5 minutes, or 10 minutes if you’d like, the mask doesn’t dry up much at all.

Unless you used a very thin layer.

Removal was straightforward.

I could feel the oat remnants going down my lips as I wash it and it was a really interesting feeling haha.

Make sure to remove it properly, I recommend using a cotton pad to swipe your face once with alcohol-free toner (if possible).

Clearing it from the bowl was even easier, leave it under running tap water and the mask just disappears like it was never there. No stains no nothing.

I didn’t even need to use soap lol.

The results after was just soft, hydrated and a brighter-looking skin.

My nose usually feels a little rough still but I noticed each time after using it, my nose feels smooooooth.

Whenever I use masks like this that needs to be applied carefully with hands, it’s also actually pretty therapeutic and can I say this smells freaking good?!

The scent is of a matcha and a tinge of oat. It’s practically a dessert and I had to fight off the urge to eat this or get my Green Tea Frappe because I’m lactose-intolerant lol.

It makes me miss it hahahah.

It also reminds me of the Osulloc Green Tea Milk Spread! I suddenly remembered this when I used this mask in the shower just now lol.

Now for my pros and cons…

Yes

  • Smells heavenly (matcha lover? You’ll love it)
  • Organic ingredients, no artificial preservatives, no parabens
  • Didn’t break me out
  • Easy to remove
  • Gave me a brightening effect like some sheet mask does (except all natural)
  • Glass jar that can easily be reused for another purpose
  • Local brand! (might not be a pro for you tho)
  • Calms and soothes my skin when I was having breakouts (pimples look slightly less inflamed)
  • Ships overseas
  • Portable

No

  • Can get messy
  • Takes time to know the amount of powder and water ratio to use for your face size
  • Price may seem too much to a normal consumer (but to me, it’s justifiable because 1. small startup 2. organic 3. handmade)

Am I Repurchasing?

If I bought this to try, I might actually be interested in trying another product from their brand first before repurchasing to see what my skin likes the most.

They run discounts from time to time too so if you’d like to seize the chance, follow them to know when they are on sale!

TheBathTheorySG also sells coffee and matcha scrubs (S$11.95) that can be used on your face and body too!

Overall Rating:

3.5 out of 5

Have you experimented with powder masks? What are your thoughts on organic products like these?

With ????,
