Top 8 Lip Products of 2018

Top 8 Lip Products of 2018 Featured

Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day to everyone! Since 26th December is Boxing Day and is a (Review) Wednesday. Hehe.

I did a poll on Instagram quite a while back asking if you guys wanted an individual review for each lip product that I like or to have them all in one.

I personally preferred having them all in one because I only post reviews on Wednesdays and having 8 consecutive weeks of lip products shout boring to me. And thankfully, majority of you guys voted all-in-one!

So here it is. My top 8 lip products of 2018 that I used the most! (Excluding lip balms)

I’m currently using The Face Shop’s Shea Butter Lip Care Cream btw.

I’ve got 8 products to introduce to you all and actually there might have been a discontinued one as it’s a limited edition product given to me by a friend. I’ll let you know down below!

All lip products were applied in full on my lips here, but I mostly like to use them in the gradient lips way 🙂

Oh and do take note that I won’t be putting down the prices and ingredients lists as I’m not too sure for all of them.

If you’re interested in them, I’m sure googling will help you with those information! 🙂

Also, ignore my skin colour but focus on the lip colours instead. I tried my best to make them as accurate as I could despite the different lightings I had to take of my lips with the sun and clouds changing.

Here’s my bare lips for comparison to the products:

Swatches and my bare lips for reference.

First up, we have the:

1. Victoria Secret’s Velvet Matte Cream Lip Stain in Perfection

Apparently, upon searching, they have revamped or produced a Velvet Matte Cream Liquid Lip which also has the same colour in the Perfection shade. Not too sure about the difference in shade or texture.

But I know that the one I had was highly raved by many people, hence on why I got it!

Muted beige pink with a hint of white.

Colour payoff & Application: Pigmented and goes on smooth even if my lips are a little dry. Colour differs a lot on swatches and on lips. When applied lightly, it looks like a very natural MLBB colour for me.

Longevity: 5/10, comes off when you eat something oily especially. Quite a bit of transfer.

Staining Abilities: 0/10, none haha.

Ease of Removal: No problem with just Micellar Water or Cleansing Oils.

Scent: Almost like cupcakes.

What I like and didn’t like: Doesn’t accentuate my dry lips, moisturising and I never felt like it was too matte. It was a very comfortable velvet-y feeling but too bad that it doesn’t stain at all. Plus the colours a little off from the actual swatches.

2. I’M MEME I’m Lip Crayon in #CY253 Blair

Bought this when I was in Korea this past August and wanted to get a lip crayon for no reason. (Greed)

And I really liked this colour when I swatched it on my hands. On the lips wasn’t a colour I particularly liked.

So I used this for my cheeks! (I did kind of cheat when I said this is in my top 8 lip products but I didn’t say for what use LOL)

Light brick red moving more towards a slightly orange/coral colour.

I like using this on a sponge, just swiping a few times, before patting it onto my cheeks and cheekbones. Putting powder blush on top makes my blusher last even longer!

Colour payoff & Application: Not very pigmented, need a few (not really smooth) swipes before you see proper colour on the lips. Feels drying after a while. Different on lips and swatches. (Felt a little cheated when I opened it to try it at home 🙁 )

Longevity: 7/10, comes off when you eat something. Does transfer a bit.

Staining Abilities: 0/10, I don’t think I noticed any staining from this product.

Ease of Removal: No problem with just Micellar Water or Cleansing Oils.

Scent: Like crayon? LOL. Doesn’t bother me much as it isn’t too strong.

What I like and didn’t like: Good for cheeks, bad for lips. This is only in my top 8 products because this makes a great cheek ‘crayon’ for me! I was actually looking for a cheek cream but this appeared so, not getting any for now!

3. Laneige Holiday Two Tone Lip Bar in #Bloody Dress

(Possibly discontinued)

This was my favourite go-to lip colour at one time because of how versatile it was for any makeup looks. I like how it looks very subtle when done in the gradient way and it just made me look brighter.

Loved the nude part of this lip bar too as it really helped to blend in with my pretty pigmented outline of my lips (which I used to hate).

I used to cover the outline of my lips with foundations last time but now, I don’t really care as much already.

Reddish-pink (cool tone) and a MLBB nude in this two tone lip bar.

Colour payoff & Application: Sufficient payoff, moisturising yet not glossy. Easy to apply but you do have to remember to flip the opposite direction when applying on the upper/lower lip. Does make my lips crack if applied when lips are slightly dry.

Longevity: 8/10, comes off just a little when you eat something. Transfers very lightly, even then, colour still stays for the most part.

Staining Abilities: 7/10, it stains when worn after a few hours. So it isn’t too awkward when some of it comes off.

Ease of Removal: May leave a little bit of stain even after removal.

Scent: Not much of a smell. Maybe a little like crayons too.

What I like and didn’t like: Easy to reapply and apply. Love the cool-tone colour which makes my teeth looking more white than usual. Didn’t like it when it makes my lips peel and crack when lips are not in a good condition.

4. Pony Effect Stayfit Matte Lip Colour in #magnificent

This was bought during the period of when matte lip products were the rage and colours were more muted than too bright.

I used this and the next one so much that the Pony Effect brand in gold came off, thus I’m showing you the other side with the longer name hehe.

Matte coral-beige with a hint of white.

Colour payoff & Application: Very pigmented and have to be careful with application as it dries pretty fast. Comfortably matte on my lips, doesn’t dry them out.

Longevity: 5/10, comes off when you eat something oily. Minimal transfer once set.

Staining Abilities: 0/10, in my opinion, it doesn’t stain.

Ease of Removal: No problem with just Micellar Water or Cleansing Oils.

Scent: Chemically fragranced. Can’t say it’s sweet, floral or perfume-y. But it definitely smells like cosmetics and chemicals.

What I like and didn’t like: When it sets, it really doesn’t transfer much. But once you eat something oily, it comes off really easily and it’ll make your lips look a little awkward with the inner lips being ‘clean’. I like how its matte formula feels slightly moisturising when you apply them on your lips. However, not recommended to apply on dry cracked lips, it accentuates it.

5. Pony Effect Stayfit Matte Lip Colour in #on fleek

I bought this before I got the colour in #magnificent. And boy, this really made me look cool with the darker beige matte lip.

That period when dark and nude lips were everywhere. I got into it too LOL.

Matte medium-brown beige.

Colour payoff & Application: Might go on a little less pigmented than expected and you have to be careful with application as it dries pretty fast. Comfortably matte on my lips, doesn’t dry them out. (Same as previous)

Longevity: 5/10, comes off when you eat something oily. Minimal transfer once set. (Same as previous)

Staining Abilities: 0/10, in my opinion, it doesn’t stain. (Same as previous)

Ease of Removal: No problem with just Micellar Water or Cleansing Oils. (Same as previous)

Scent: Chemically fragranced. Can’t say it’s sweet, floral or perfume-y. But it definitely smells like cosmetics and chemicals. (Same as previous)

What I like and didn’t like: Apart from what I said in the previous colour, this colour was at a shade that wasn’t too dark, in which I was willing to try. It got a while to get used to the colour on my lips. So sometimes, I’d use #magnificent on the inner lips or other reddish colours to change it up a bit, and it transitions very well.

6. BBIA Last Velvet Lip Tint in #11 침착보스

침착보스 (chim-chak bo-seu) literally means ‘calm boss’. Haha Koreans and their product naming.

Velvet bright pinkish-red.

Colour payoff & Application: Very pigmented, however colour again, differs from swatches. I’m okay with the colour except that it’s a little too bright for me. I will then combine it with other colours and this gives a nice pop of colour for that purpose. Applies smoothly and feels velvet-y on the lips. Not drying unless applied on dry and cracked lips.

Longevity: 8/10, stays on my lips pretty long. Comes off a little after eating but not too obvious.

Staining Abilities: 7.5/10, stains quite a lot I must say.

Ease of Removal: Leaves a light stain even after removal.

Scent: Chemically floral + sweet? It’s hard to describe but it isn’t off putting to me.

What I like and didn’t like: Super affordable. I remember buying this at 5,500 won in Korea, which is about S$6-7. And for something so affordable to last so long, I really liked it. I wished I picked up a few more colours. Also didn’t like how the colour doesn’t turn out the same as on the lips. Meh.

7. Peripera Ink the Airy Velvet in #10 감성필터 (Dry Rose Brown)

I got this on a sale, at about 7,200 won from 9,000 won, if I’m not wrong.

Seriously, if I lived in Korea, I would have more than 10 lipsticks lol.

감성필터(kam-seong-pil-tor) means Emotions/Emotional Filter, not quite sure what they mean when naming this shade but yeah!

Velvet light rose-pink.

Colour payoff & Application: Applies like a dream. Almost like a gel formula which eventually sets in a soft manner. Light and airy, similar to its name. Pigmentation wise, I would say it is pretty good, slightly lighter in colour than you’d expect from swatches. Usually for a colour like this to appear on my lips, it isn’t easy because of the dark outline of my lips. But this didn’t seem to have troubles with it.

Longevity: 7/10, comes off when you eat something. Doesn’t really transfer.

Staining Abilities: 3/10, stains a little but due to its light colour, it isn’t as staining as the next product below.

Ease of Removal: No problem with just Micellar Water or Cleansing Oils.

Scent: Sweet with a punch at the end. LOL.

What I like and didn’t like: Expected a dusty rose-pink but instead achieved a light rose-pink on the lips. Smooth and moisturising application at the same time while getting a matte lip. Doesn’t feel uncomfortable but you can feel a slight tingling upon application. However, you can apply a darker colour in the inner parts of your lips and use this as an outer colour so you get a gradient colour 🙂

8. Peripera Peri’s Ink the Velvet in #6 여주인공 (Celeb Deep Rose)

This shade’s name means Female Lead (yeo-ju-in-gong) to which I think that’s why they used Celeb(rity) in the English title.

I used this so much after the Laneige’s Two Tone Lip Bar featured on top that I’m not sure why I’m still not out of it haha.

And I just realised both colours look pretty similar in pictures but when it’s not in the sun, this looks like a cool-red as seen in the ‘under indirect sunlight’ section below.

Matte deep rose-pink.

Colour payoff & Application: Pretty pigmented and easy to apply/spread. Dries comfortably as well.

Longevity: 7/10, comes off when you eat something. Does transfer a bit because it’s more dark.

Staining Abilities: 8/10, this stains and I like this one for that reason. Even after oily food, I can be rest assured that majority is still remaining and I won’t look awkward.

Ease of Removal: Stains a little possibly after removal. It isn’t a problem for me when a little bit remains.

Scent: Less sweet than the Airy Velvet, more perfume-y.

What I like and didn’t like: I generally like this and there’s nothing I didn’t like about it.

Am I Repurchasing any?

I sadly, don’t think so. As a former lipstick junkie, I have turned over a new leaf. LOL. As I continue exploring more lip products, I try not to repurchase any because I love having different kinds of colours at the moment.

While these are definitely in my top 8, they mostly serve a different occasion for me while no. 3 (Laneige) and no. 8 (Peripera Ink the Velvet) is an everyday use for me.

I can use no. 1 (Victoria’s Secret) and no. 7 (Peripera Ink the Airy Velvet) on no makeup days for an MLBB colour!

How did you like my review of these 8 lip products? Have you tried any of them?

I’ll chat with you again soon!

With ????,
