From the Glow Recipe website:

Make P:rem’s Blue Ray line counteracts the damage cause by hot Infrared waves and radiation by cooling down the skin surface by multiple degrees while still providing superior UVA and UVB protection. The milky texture of the Sun Fluid glides across skin, spreading evenly and disappearing within seconds. Formulated with hydrating Chia seed extracts and calming Centella extract, the Sun Fluid refreshes and soothes overheated skin to protect from sun damage. Ideal for all skin types, especially combo and oily facial and body skin.Glow Recipe

This product is a physical sunscreen also free of: Parabens, Sodium Lauryl & Laureth Sulfates, Synthetic dyes

Look & Feel

As this came in a huge amount of 200ml, the bottle was also big and opaque. The sunscreens that I’ve used in the past only comes in 50ml tubes or bottles. They also said that you can use it on your body as well, which is probably the reason why.

They made use of the inside of the box to explain about their brand, Make P:rem. I wasn’t expecting this till I saw a flap and dotted lines across the box, so inquisitive me just opened it. If you’re interested, you can click the image to see more.

Back of the box and product. They also provided an ‘Opened Date:   Y   M   D’ on the bottle so you can make sure you’re done with this product in 12 months!

I didn’t make use of this because I usually finish them within a year anyway. Haha.

Did You Know?

The amount of sunscreen you should be applying (for your face) is a ¼ of a teaspoon or less? Depending on your face size and shape, you may need lesser than what people always say. Btw, ¼ is actually from a calculation on the surface area of men from the 95th percentile. So if you’re female, the chances of you having a slightly smaller face is higher. Hence, a lesser amount! 🙂

This has a very interesting consistency. When you pour it from the bottle, it comes out really watery and fairly stark white.

However, once you apply it on your face, it almost feels like you’re applying the traditional sunblock creams where it’s slightly thicker, except only 80% watery.

LOL. Sorry if my description is a little weird but it just doesn’t go on as watery as it came out of the bottle.

It goes from moisturising to a matte finish and actually makes my skin feel really tight about 10 minutes in after it’s fully settled.

I like this product only when I’m using it alone, as it gives a nice brightening effect that isn’t too obvious unlike some other sunscreens.

When used with a foundation on top, I use my Fenty Beauty foundation, it doesn’t go on that well and doesn’t look pretty.

It’s sad that I wanted to use this under my makeup but I usually have to use a heavier moisturiser under so I don’t feel that tight from the product.

It alleviates that a little bit so keep that in mind if you’re intending to purchase this. If your moisturiser is a gel or lightweight type, it might not cut it and may make you feel even more dry.

One other gripe I have about this is that it leaves your fingers with a certain film and it makes you want to wash it right away with soap or water. (I use soap)

This is probably the only sunscreen out of all that I’ve used which made me feel this way.

????????It’s day 2 of my short Johor Bahru trip & here’s my makeup routine! If you remember me mentioning about a hack in my stories about how I started using something I didn’t like under my makeup to help my makeup last? — It’s the @makeprem Blue Ray Sun Fluid!!! Tbh, I’ve seen more than one person in this community that doesn’t really like this product due to how it dries matte and throughout the day, it feels even drier. . I had more than half left for this and I wanted to somehow use it up! Used it on my body and I didn’t rly like it too but one thing I realised about this product, was that I liked its consistency BEFORE it settles in. So I eventually found out 2 ways to use it for my makeup. (Previously, makeup appeared patchy after the sunscreen settled down) Method 1: Apply the sunscreen as quickly as you can. After that, pump a little foundation (that doesn’t dry matte) onto your hands and start to dab it onto your face with your finger as evenly as you can across your face. Then spread it with a brush or sponge within ~3 min, I use a cushion puff. (I recommend trial testing with lesser foundation and work your way up every trial to see how much coverage you like) After a while, your makeup sets and it seriously lasts the whole day for me! Better than the recent makeup primer I reviewed LOL. I don’t even need powder. Method 2: For a natural makeup look, apply a little foundation and sufficient sunscreen onto your hand and mix it! (Swipe to see the ratio I used for my current foundation – I applied two lines for my sunscreen btw but it moved while taking the photo ????) Apply it as quickly as you can too and watch your foundation slowly set. Apply extra foundation or concealer directly wherever needed. Again, NO POWDER NEEDED! If you have this product, do give this method a try! Even if you don’t have this, maybe a similar sunscreen you had that dries matte but had a great consistency before could work well too! Btw, check out the actual products I brought for lip and cheek on the last pic (used the peripera + foundation to use as a cheek cream). Liking the brow pencil I recently got from The Face Shop ❤️ – Products in comments –

Yes

  • Sunscreen smell is not too overpowering
  • Better for combination oily or oily skin types
  • Dries to a matte finish
  • Very slight white cast which helps brighten skin tone not too obviously (depends on the amount you apply)
  • Cooling when applying product (but only for a few seconds. In Singapore, such things don’t work in ‘cooling down the skin surface by multiple degrees’)
  • Fairly easy to blend (slightly watery when poured from the bottle, but texture is thicker when spreading)

No

  • Slight white cast might not be suitable for people with darker skin tones (I am about NC 20-25, No. 23 in korean foundations)
  • Can be too drying for dry skin types
  • Leaves fingers feeling not so nice after applying onto body or face
  • It’s can be very pricey depending on where you buy it, Glow Recipe actually sells it for USD$38

Am I Repurchasing?

No. As much as there are a little more good things to say about this, I didn’t like how it dried my skin throughout the day when I use it.

I was hoping this could be my holy grail like some people but sadly, this didn’t work too well for me.

I’m just thinking of using this as a sunscreen on days I don’t use makeup till I’m done with it. Or just using a heavier moisturiser under to prevent my skin from feeling too tight.

Everyone’s skin is slightly different so if you’re okay with my ‘Yes’, you can give it a try. If you don’t like it for your face, use it on your body!

There’s so much in this bottle anyway!

Overall Rating:

3.5 out of 5

Do you have a Korean sunscreen you are loving? Since I only trust Korean brands for sunscreen, hit me up with one that you like!

  1. Hi! I have been using it for a few days after seeing your review. I think it is pretty good. The only problem that I really need your answer is that: do I need to use oil makeup remover or I can use micellar water to cleanse it? Because I have heard somewhere that this sun fluid is water proof so it id hard to remove without oil cleasing, but I can’t use oil cleansing so ????. Please give me the answer. Thank you so much

    1. Hi Vivienne! Glad it seems to work for you. ????
Tbh, this sunblock is very clingy to the skin. I do double cleanse when using this sunblock, oil cleansing followed by cleanser. Except that I always use micellar water first before the double cleansing.

But if you can only use micellar water, I recommend using embossed cotton pads.

Make sure to put the soaked cotton pad on each part of your face for a few seconds before wiping it off. (Like how you remove eye makeup ☺️) I’d probably use about 3 cotton pads at least to make sure it’s removed.

Hope that helped! Micellar water can remove waterproof makeup, just not as easy. ????

  2. Definitely an odd description, but I think I know what you mean. Haha. That’s a really good sized bottle for 50spf! Excellent review. Very thorough and detailed. I really enjoyed reading it 😀 x

    1. Yeah it’s kinda hard to explain in words ???? apologies. Haha it is, especially if you wanna use it for your body.

Thank you so much! It means a lot ???? it’s my aim to try and give thorough reviews after reading so many reviews myself haha xx
