Review | NEOGEN Green Tea Gentle Gauze Peeling Pad

Neogen Green Tea Gentle Gauze Peeling Pad Featured

This NEOGEN Green Tea Gentle Gauze Peeling Pad has been out for a while now and I got the upgraded version.

They also have it in Wine (elasticity) and Lemon (brightening).

I chose to purchase this because I felt ‘safer’ trying something less harsh like green tea, compared to wine or lemon.

But after trying this product, hey, I might try one of the other two!

If you’ve tried the Wine or Lemon, do tell me your thoughts 🙂

Without further ado, we’ll start on this LONG review lol.

What: NEOGEN Gentle Gauze Peeling Pad in Green Tea

Price: 22,900 won (Bought it at 14,400 won when it was on sale in Korea)

Weight: 190 ml / 30 pads

Period-After-Opening: 6 months

If you’re not aware, there’s actually a difference in the NEOGEN Dermalogy Bio-Peel GENTLE Gauze Peeling Green Tea with just the Gauze Peeling Green Tea.

Currently, Korea has the upgraded version but it feels like the previous version, a.k.a the Gauze Peeling Pad, is also still being sold.

To clarify things, the Gentle Gauze Peeling Pad (not sure if it’s sold everywhere other than Korea) is a chemical exfoliant, with PHA (polyhydroxy acids) inside, whereas the Gauze Peeling Pad is only used as a physical exfoliant. Both product ingredients lists are different so do take note!

The PHAs in this product is Lactobionic Acid and Gluconolactone.

PHA is the second generation of AHA, and is a much gentler acid than AHA.

PHAs gently remove dead skin cells to allow your skin to appear smoother and more even in tone.

PHAs exfoliate in a more mild manner when compared to alpha hydroxy acids. And unlike alpha hydroxy acids, they don’t increase your skin’s sun sensitivity or vulnerability to sun damage. They also chelate extra iron in your skin (more on what that actually means below).

– Ashley Weatherford from thecut.com

You can read more about PHAs in this particular link: The Cut – What is Polyhydroxy Acids

I actually linked this article to my HG blackhead remover that uses PHA too.

It’s the CNP Invisible Peeling Booster – I wrote a review about it already.

Look & Feel

Neogen Green Tea Gentle Gauze Peeling Pad Product

This product comes in a cylindrical glass jar with a hard plastic cover (I assume). It’s a pretty big jar, honestly not very practical to travel with it unless you store it in another smaller container.

But that’s too much work for me.

As it’s in a transparent packaging, you can actually see through to know how many more pads you’re roughly left with.

Also do take note that this product needs to be finished in 6 months from the time that you opened it.

Another thing that I like about this product packaging is that there’s a separate layer that you have to open before reaching into the product.

I don’t peel the whole thing off, and use that layer as an extra protection to prevent any possibility of the product drying up.

In the picture, it may seem like not much product is left in the jar but when there were 30 pads at first, there were some extra product. But I assume that as the pads were used, the product went down along with it.

That’s pretty no brainer but yeah, just putting it out here.

Each pads are still fully soaked though. It isn’t dried up or anything.

Application

The application is very simple.

You dry your face off lightly with a towel, since it has to be used on dry face, then pick up the pads.

Neogen Green Tea Gentle Gauze Peeling Pad Product 2
I flipped it over on the right picture to show you the soft part of the pad.

The first side that you see when you open it, should be the exfoliating side.

You slot 2-3 fingers into the opening (depending on how many you can fit! – sorry if this sounds wrong lol) then slowly wipe with light pressure in an upwards motion, from the inside to the outside.

You can go around your nose a few times to physically exfoliate too.

After you’re done wiping your neck and face area, switch sides and you’ll realise that the embossed side is very smooth and calming to swipe all over your face.

The exfoliating side isn’t very rough to me, but you might find it slightly rough on your skin. Just be gentle yet apply enough pressure to slough off some dead skin cells.

Anyway…

For the first few uses, I didn’t notice it, but on one time after using it at night, the next day, my skin felt friggin’ smooth while washing my face. I used either water or my KraveBeauty’s Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser to do my morning cleanse.

Like as though I have no dead skin cells on top of my nose (it wasn’t bumpy or rough anymore), and cheeks, chin, forehead, EVERYWHERE was smooth.

And I do obviously notice that on days when I didn’t use it the night before, my skin wasn’t as smooth.

I use this on alternate days or 2 days intervals.

My exfoliating routine goes like this:

This product (wait ~ 30 seconds) > Mamonde Rose Water Toner (reviewed) > Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel (reviewed) > Innisfree Jeju Orchid Enriched Cream > Innisfree Jeju Orchid Eye Cream

Apart from how well it works to remove my dead skin cells efficiently, it felt like it reduced my blackheads too. It isn’t SUPER effective but considering that PHA is a mild acid, and I’ve used this not very consistently until recently, I’m pretty satisfied with the product.

Scent wise, it smells like Thursday Plantation’s Tea Tree Oil!

A very familiar smell whenever I spot treat my acne with it in the past.

P.S. DO dilute it 100% tea tree oil beforehand. A tip I would give is to soak the cotton bud end with water before putting the tea tree oil on it.

I don’t use any spot treatment currently though I do use these two products to soothe my acne.

Btw, this product has Cica (Centella Asiatica Extract) in it too!

Just like the two products I use:

Dermatory Hypoallergenic Cica Rescue Gauze Pad (reviewed)

Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel (reviewed)

This Gauze Peeling Pad may sound scary but no, it doesn’t literally peel your skin off.

It is very gentle and suitable for all skin types even sensitive skin.

Neogen Green Tea Gentle Gauze Peeling Pad Information
Some info on the plastic packaging that wrapped the jar.

I don’t remember feeling any stinging or irritation from using it.

There may be just 30 pads but if you use about 2-3 per week, this can last you 10 weeks!

If bought at original price, it costs just around a dollar for one pad.

Make your money’s worth and try to get it when there’s a sale somewhere either online or in Korea!

I do like this product but I won’t particularly get it again unless it’s on sale.

It gives me results the next day but because it’s mild physical + chemical exfoliation, the results are not long lasting.

There needs to be consistent use because once you stop, for a few days, your skin will go back normal.

Or so I feel.

However, I do like that I can literally exfoliate my skin while including some chemical exfoliation at the same time with this, which is always great!

I used to use St. Ives Apricot Scrub a few years back, and while I didn’t like the beads, I like the exfoliation part.

This product has no beads but physically removing dead skin cells was satisfying enough for me. You might not be able to see it on the pad, but sometimes I do see remnants of my makeup that wasn’t properly removed during makeup removal time.

Oops. I doubt I’m the only one though! Hehe.

One last thing! I try not to use it when I just popped a pimple in the bath and there’s an open wound. If I still want to use it, I avoid the pimple area.

Now to summarise things up!

Yes

  • Gently exfoliates physically and chemically
  • Reduced a little of my blackheads overtime
  • Hyaluronic acid, Centella Asiatica, Tea Tree Oil, Green Tea (great ingredients)
  • Didn’t irritate my skin
  • Free from artificial fragrance, colourants and alcohol
  • Made my skin smooth the next day
  • Glass jar (can be recycled to store things after)
  • Good for all skin types

No

  • It must be used up within 6 months)
  • Needs consistent usage to visibly see and feel results
  • 30 pads for that price doesn’t seem friendly to me
  • Bulky packaging, not good for travel

Am I Repurchasing?

I might if I was searching for some gentle physical exfoliant. I wouldn’t rely on these pads for long term usage though. There’s something that works similarly for me (excluding the physical esfoliation) already, which is the CNP Invisible Peeling Booster.
